IMPORTANCE AND RESPONSIBILITY OF JURY SERVICE

TRIAL BY JURY IS A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF THE AMERICAN JUSTICE SYSTEM AND IS A RIGHT GUARANTEED UNDER THE UNITED STATES AND ILLINOIS CONSTITUTIONS. TO PRESERVE THIS RIGHT, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE COURT ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A WELL-FUNCTIONING SYSTEM FOR THE SELECTION AND UTILIZATION OF JURORS.

LASALLE COUNTY OPERATES UNDER THE ONE DAY/ONE TRIAL JURY SERVICE SYSTEM. IN THE CURRENT ONE DAY/ONE TRIAL JURY SYSTEM, PETIT JURORS SERVE FOR EITHER ONE DAY IF NOT SELECTED OR FOR THE DURATION OF ONE TRIAL IF SELECTED.

THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SUMMONED FOR JURY SERVICE IS BASED UPON THE COURT CALENDAR AND ARE RANDOMLY SELECTED BY COMPUTER FROM THE MASTER LIST PROVIDED BY THE STATE OF ILLINOIS. THE MASTER LIST IS A COMBINATION OF ILLINOIS DRIVERS LICENSE, REGISTERED VOTERS, DISABLED PERSON ID CARDHOLDERS, AND THE UNEMPLOYMENT LIST IN LASALLE COUNTY.

THE CITIZENS OF LASALLE COUNTY CAN TAKE PRIDE IN HAVING ONE OF THE MOST MODERN JURY SYSTEMS OPERATING IN ILLINOIS. WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR SERVICE AS A JUROR, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT YOU WILL HAVE A HIGHER OPINION OF THE PRIVILEGE ENJOYED BY FREE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED SATES IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. IN SERVING AS A JUROR, YOU HAVE PROVIDED A VITAL AND ESSENTIAL SERVICE IN THE JUSTICE PROCESS. THANK YOU.
