Rabies Tag Registration Info

Rabies is a dangerous virus that anyone can get if they handle or are bitten by an animal with the disease.  The LaSalle County Animal Control Department is a mandated County enforcement agency for the purpose of protecting the community from rabies.  LaSalle County Animal Control works in conjunction with local area Law Enforcement Agencies and animal control departments from boarding counties to control the spread of rabies, keep registration information of dogs and cats within the county, and investigate animal complaints.

All dogs and companion cats that are 4 months or more of age are required to be inoculated against
rabies by a licensed veterinarian per the State of Illinois Animal Control Act and LaSalle County Animal Control Ordinance.  Each animal vaccinated against rabies is issued a numbered tag that can be used to identify the animal if it becomes lost.

The majority of Lasalle County veterinarians will vaccinate, issue a county rabies tag, and collect the tag
fee for your pet’s registration.  If your veterinarian does not participate in the LaSalle County Rabies Tag Program, or if you use an out-of-county clinic, you are responsible for paying the registration fee within 30 days.  If your registration is not paid within 30 days, you will be responsible for additional late fees. Legal action will be taken by the States Attorney Office after 90 days.  The fee may be paid by: Sending a copy of the vaccination certificate, Rabies Tag Application Form, and payment to rabies@lasallecountyil.gov or stopping in at the Sheriff’s Department with vaccination certificate and payment. We accept personal check, cash, and debit/credit card only.
